Beauregard's Retreat, 5 Bedrooms, Arcade, Hot Tub, Pool Table, Sleeps 11
Here’s a sentence you won’t hear when you stay at Beauregard’s Retreat: “I’m bored!” Not only is the 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom lodge just a short drive from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the numerous attractions of Pigeon Forge, but it’s also packed with plenty to keep kids and adults alike entertained.
The downstairs game room is where much of the action takes place. In addition to a full-size pool table, the large space includes a TV, a PlayStation 2, a Nintendo GameCube, and an arcade loaded with such classic games as Ms. Pac-Man, Frogger, and Donkey Kong. There’s also plenty of seating so that you can gather by the stone-surround fireplace, plus a table tailor-made for playing cards or board games. If you need to fortify yourself with snacks or a drink during your rummy marathon or pool game, you can grab what you need from the game room’s wet bar, which has a microwave as well as a mini fridge.
Up one flight is the main floor, with a spacious great room. Large windows in the double-height walls and the towering vaulted ceiling add to the open, airy feel; the burnished wood-planked walls and floor and the stone-surround fireplace give it a warm, welcoming vibe. Sprawl out on the plush sofa to watch TV, stretch out on the rug to play with the kids, or curl up in an armchair with your tablet to surf the web via the free WiFi: The living area is designed for relaxation.
The large dining table can seat as many as 10 people on charming log-style chairs, and there’s room for several more at the adjacent breakfast bar. The breakfast bar is also a handy spot for friends and family to sit and help with meal prep. The kitchen is well equipped with all the appliances, cookware, and tableware you could possibly need, even if you’re hosting a Thanksgiving feast. A charcoal grill outside will please those in your group eager for a barbecue.
All 5 bedrooms have their own TV along with furnishings that define “rustic refinement.” Three of the bedrooms have queen-size beds. The 4th, with a twin bunk bed over a full-size bed, is perfect for kids—every night will seem like a slumber party. Making up the loft is the master suite, with a sumptuous king-size bed, a private bathroom, and most pampering of all, a jetted tub.
You don’t have to be in the master suite to enjoy a rejuvenating soak, however. One of the lodge’s covered decks has its own hot tub. Especially after a day of hiking, skiing, or fishing, the massaging jets of water will feel fabulous. Afterward—or before, or any other time!— kick back on one of the many rockers that line the decks and gaze out at majestic Bluff Mountain. During the day wrens and warblers will regale you with song; at night the hooting of owls will punctuate the serenade of the whip-poor-wills.
Beauregard’s Retreat is within the Covered Bridge Resort, located in Wears Valley, the so-called “quiet side of the Smoky Mountains.” When you stay in the summer, you’ll have free access to the resort’s heated outdoor pool.
The resort is only 10 minutes from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which you can explore on foot, on bike, on horseback, or by car. Less than 20 minutes away is the Pigeon Forge Parkway, the town’s main thoroughfare. Here’s where you’ll find the Titanic Museum, Dixie Stampede and other dinner theaters, a huge outlet mall, WonderWorks, and shops and restaurants galore. Also less than 20 minutes away is Dollywood; drive a bit farther and you’re in the neighboring town of Gatlinburg, home to the Guinness World Records Museum, Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park and Ski Area, the Gatlinburg Arts and Crafts Loop, thrill rides, and more.
